The travel Trunk

I just about finished Ane Thea’s Travel Trunk.  It turned out exactly how I envisioned it, and I was so thrilled to find a fabric that not only has the same colours of the carpeting, but a trim that matched as well, giving it all a timeless look, not modern, not old fashioned but just right for a Pixie.  The neutral colours will not over take the photo’s but will fade into the background when Ane Thea is in her room.  I had thought strong colours would work, but now I realize how much better a quiet theme works for her:

Here the mattress was too thick, now that I made a wooden bunk base that was raised.

2011-04-02 003 I stuck little travel-themed posters on her wall.  This is pretty much hidden from view, which makes it fun.  Not only did I end up with polka dot fabric and ball trim, the wallpaper was polka dot too!  It was in the pack of scrapbook papers I bought, I had not even considered using it until I saw the potential with the fabric.

2011-04-02 004 Everything is glued down or nailed down solid.  The drawers, the desk and the base of the bed.  I added brown shimmer powder to the unstained wood to tone it down and blend in with the other colours.  It gave it a bit of an aged look.

2011-04-02 007 A close up of the carpet…I just love this.  It is so soft for her bare feet, so elegant, but not too fussy.

2011-04-02 008 I have been gluing travel decals on the outside, today I will be giving it a couple of coats of varnish.

2011-04-02 016 Ane Thea loves her room.  Here you can see that I cut the mattress in half and it sits just right down into the bed base.  She can lay full length, with room to spare.  The mattress fits snugly, so I can add a ribbon and tie it around her waist when we travel, or I can fit the chairs and table up there and she can ride in her water bottle carrier.  Not sure yet how I will work all this out for the travel day.  I decided to send one more box to Hawaii, I may just send the furniture ahead.

I had bought a set of glasses for her, and I LOVE her in these:

2011-04-01 025  I need to set up a Flickr account for her and start her adventure soon!

Rugs, Wallpaper, Hammock

I went shopping yesterday.  I went to several places, still hoping to find a travel home idea for Ane Thea.  I did mail a box off to Hawaii, with some sewing notions and trims, Ane Thea’s clothing (what little I have) her foods, some items, Frank Sinatra and some summery fabric.  I was in a bit of a rush to mail it, I think there are some other things I would like to mail, like DVD’s and books, so one more box will go before I leave.

At Ross, I looked at the Book boxes, imagining that I could at least carry her in a book on the airplane, but I kept thinking I really didn’t want to carry more than I needed.  I looked at their rugs, as I wanted to have some sort of floor covering for her box, but nothing really struck me.  I did however buy two packs of scrapbooking papers, I figured it was much cheaper than buying the individual papers, and one was a travel one anyways.

2011-04-01 005 I liked the colours.  I can always use them in future projects if it didn’t suit Ane Thea’s room.

At a thrift shop, I found a metal fruit hammock.  I really hesitated on whether to get it, it was only $4, and I had actually looked at one for her before, but on eBay it was closer to $20 as I remember.  I thought, I would regret it if I didn’t buy it, so I did:

2011-04-01 006 I also found a bag of animals and fish, perfect for photostories on the beach.  I love how the hammock swings, with a nice tropical pattern fabric, I could make a padded cushion.  Great for Ane Thea to curl up with a book.

I also found a runner that was carpet like material, but very soft and fine.  I loved it, and cut a piece for her room, and the remaining two pieces worked for Evie and Miette’s rooms:

I am still playing around the wallpapers, fabric and so on, so this is NOT a completed room yet.  I want to find better fabric for the chairs and bed, something I think in turquoise and a touch of cobalt….as the carpeting has cream, tan and turquoise, and the wallpaper does too.

2011-04-01 010  The travel wallpaper set had some letters, but I could only spell out her first two names.  I think I will hit Hobby Lobby today and see if I can find some travel stickers for the outside of the box, a piece of wood for the bed base and I will need good glue to get everything nailed down.  I would like to have her name on the outside of the box, so I will look for lettering ideas.

Oh, and I found a water bottle holder, now she can travel with me everywhere I go, she fits into it perfectly and no one will be the wiser.

2011-04-01 007 No more getting stuffed into a purse! She will like that much better.  We will test it out today.

I have been in such a funk since my husband left.  I think I am climbing out of it.  It seemed to take a spark of creativeness to see me through it.

I went to a different thrift shop yesterday and also the Antique Market, just to get out of the house and get my mind shifted.  I still have no idea how to house or travel with Ane Thea and I go round and round on the issue.  So when I am out shopping, I search for ideas.

In the thrift shop, I searched through the baskets, the boxes, the ideas came and went with trying to come up with something that is reasonable in cost and something I can work with.  I can help but see Ane Thea in something more whimsical, Pixie-like but not cute and princess-y.  Some sparkle, but not over done.  I was looking through the candle holders and soap dishes and saw all the metal items that were scroll, spirals and so on. My mind started clicking on it….I could use some of these objects and make furniture out of them!  Best of all, most of these objects were between 20 cents and 79 cents!  I grabbed several pieces, including some I have no idea what they originally were, lol.

Then I sat with the art box and played until ideas came.  I realize that Ane Thea needs a different sort of home, one that can be quickly packed up and on the go.  She needs a bed, a table and chair and something that would allow for a wash up.  Here are the objects, but I have yet to decide on the colours, fabrics, flooring and wallpapers.  Click to enlarge photo’s

2011-03-23 001  I used a piece of memory foam for the mattress I just put a piece of fabric over it, it is not what will be used.  I used the drawer boxes and the roll top desk as the base of the bed (it will still need a piece of wood).  I cut squares of the foam and put it down in square candle holders and made perfect height chairs (ottoman style).  Another candle holder becomes the wash basin and reversed, makes a table, but the best thing of all was the two real glass candle holders that became a table with a window!

2011-03-23 006 The bottom candle holder had four curlicue wires in the corner’s, I used them to hook the second candle holder as a table top.  I LOVE the window!  I tried to imagine whether to create walls so that the window was looking like a real window, but when I draped a wire that had peach and green beads down each side, it gave the suggestion of invisible walls that made me feel like I was on to something different.

2011-03-23 004  Here are the chairs.  They will be covered in fabric when I find the right colours.  I have Miette’s trunk in the background, but no matter how I tried, it just didn’t seem Pixie like.  Miette will be so happy to have it back!

2011-03-23 002 2011-03-23 003 Here is two different candle holders, the white porcelain holder is a perfect table when in the down position, and a perfect wash basin when up.  I put a chamber pot underneath.  The pitcher was 20 cents!

2011-03-23 005 2011-03-23 007 The bed is so plush and thick! I am amazed that the desk and the drawer boxes fit perfectly.  The whimsical doors are easily taped to the sides and work for opening and closing.

2011-03-23 009  Ane Thea’s furniture is in scale with her.  The two chairs could be placed side by side if she wanted a sofa.  The base of the table could have a light added, I have a battery operated tea light that would be perfect!

I don’t have good photo’s yet of the beads on a wire, but last night, they caught the light and created a sparkly and enchanting look.  I sat with a piece of paper and wrote down lists of ideas of what I need to create this house for Ane Thea.

Wallpaper (scrap book papers)

Flooring tile? wood?  Paper? Grass mat?

Side walls?  What about silk leaves?  Leave them invisible?

Matching fabrics for the chairs, bedding.

Find some carved or pressed wood moulding for the bed area.

Need a wood platform for the mattress

Because the boxes are a soft light sage green and the beads are the same green and peach, I think those will be the colours I use.  The table is a cobalt blue, so I want to incorporate that in the chair fabric somehow.

Now that I have it fairly established, I can set this aside and finish my china doll I am working on.  Wow, even that is coming out so lovely….I am on a roll!  lol

Just a quick note.

I am home, I am in the whirlwind of the errands and things we need to do in the first two days, and will be heading to my parents house this afternoon to get all our mail.

I just wanted to mention how I felt when I walked in the door.  Out of the blue, I had this huge surge in my heart to go and get Evie.  She was lying in her bed and I gently picked her up and held her to my heart for the longest time.  The thought did not enter my mind prior to that moment that I had missed her so much.

I looked her in her eyes and saw such a longing there to be held, to be thought about again.  I took off her blonde wig and tried a few on again, leaving her in the brown short wig.  I put some eyelashes on, (I need to get new ones, these had been used before and had glue on them) and sat with her in my lap the rest of the evening.   I kept getting the feeling she wanted to say something, but couldn’t.

2011-03-12 0052011-03-12 003 She just looks so sad, so lonely.

2011-03-12 002 I must cheer her up.  I will take her with me to my parents.  I think she needs some one on one attention.  I almost caught a glimpse of hope in her eyes!

We just got our load assignment, we deliver on the 10th and should be home on the 11th.  I will probably drive up to my parents and get our mail and Allina and Mikko on the afternoon of the 11th.  Fingers crossed they are home that day!  lol.  Three more days….

It’s been so hard these last few days to keep from knitting.  I am leaving the bit I have done until I can size things better.  The urge to knit, however, is overwhelmingly strong!  How crazy that is!

Photostory: It Wasn’t a Very Good Idea

DSC09628 Charlotte: Evie, there is something I have to talk to you about.  I know you really wanted the children to come with you.  But they cannot come along this time.

DSC09625 Oliver:  Yes, yes dear girl, The children have all come down with the measles!  They will have to stay in our care until they are better.

DSC09614 Evie:  Oh my gosh!  They all have spots!

DSC09615 Hammie:  I fell sick.

Evie: You sure do look sick too!

Evie: Does it hurt?

Charlotte:  It doesn’t hurt.  But they do have fevers and chills and cannot go anywhere for many weeks.

DSC09618 Evie:  Well this is just so sad!  I hope they all feel better.

DSC09624 Oliver:  They will, Evie.  We have plenty of Sugar pills! (winking)

DSC09619 Evie: (sniffling)  Now I have no one to play with!

Who Will It Be This Time?

The last day on home-time.  Heavy Sigh.

I have been tossing things into the box that I will take back on the truck, but I have not put anything of dolly stuff yet.  This is always the hardest part for me, who do I bring besides Evie?  I was thinking about Jollyann, but I have been missing Audrey so much.  She may come along with Evie.  I could bring her a little bed.  But to leave Hammie behind?  And If I bring him….poor Pandora!  See….it builds up to pure angst.

I don’t have the same depth of space in the long cubbies that line the length of my bed, so I cannot use those for Hammie and Audrey’s beds like I did before.

DSC09405 DSC09408So they will have to be up in the “doll room” I will create in this cubby.  But, heck, what to bring for that?  It’s like I have to decide on the companions coming along first.  Triple the sigh factor.  Again, I wish I had only one doll and none of this would ever be an issue ever again.

I have taken photo’s of some items I am planning on selling.  Now that I have sorted so many doll clothes and objects and organized my dolls, perhaps it is time to let go of the things I no longer use or need.  I can then put them up for auction 7 days before I return and can take care of it when home.  I need the time to think it through too.

Today I plan on trying to pack up what Evie will need, who will also come along and maybe Evie needs to be the one to make that decision.  I feel bad that Charlotte still has not gotten her proper wedding dress, maybe I can put together a basic dress and work on the elaborations while on the road.  But I am glad to have been able to put Evie’s winter wardrobe together and refinish Jollyann and make individual rooms for the rest of the companions.  I accomplished more that I expected I could while on this extended hometime.

Here is are a couple of recent pictures of my favourite doll, I mean my granddaughter, Ryah:
